FAQ

What are icebreaker questions?

Short, easy questions that get a group talking at the start of a class, meeting or workshop. Everyone can answer from their own life in a sentence or two, so nobody has to know anything or get it right.

What are good icebreaker questions for work?

Light ones that don't ask about anything private: your first job, a tool you can't live without, a small win from this week. Avoid questions about money, family plans or health, and let people pass.

What are good get to know you questions for students?

Questions about hobbies, places, food and goals work for any age: "What is a hobby you could talk about for an hour?" or "What is a food from your culture that everyone should try?" The Students set has 40 of them.

What are this or that questions?

Quick choices between two things, like "Beach or mountains?". They are the fastest icebreaker: everyone answers in one word, then a few people say why. Try it with students moving to one side of the room or the other.

How do I use icebreaker questions in class?

Put the generator on the projector in full screen at the start of the lesson. Show one question, give 30 seconds to think, then have pairs ask each other before a few share with the class. In an ESL class it makes a quick warmer.

Can I use these as a question of the day?

Yes. Open the page each morning and press Next: you won't see a question again until every one in the set has come up. Or copy one from the lists below onto your first slide.

Are the questions random?

Yes. The generator shuffles the set you pick and deals it like a deck of cards, so a question only comes back once you have seen all 40.

Is anything saved or sent anywhere?

No. The generator runs entirely in your browser and works offline once the page has loaded. Nothing is saved or put in the page address.
