Quick answers

How long does a script take on a teleprompter?

At 130 words per minute, a comfortable speaking pace, a 500-word script scrolls past in 3:51. Find your own pace with the speaking pace test.

  • 150 words 1:09
  • 300 words 2:18
  • 500 words 3:51
  • 750 words 5:46
  • 1,000 words 7:42
  • 1,500 words 11:32

At 130 words per minute. At 160 it is about a fifth quicker: 500 words in 3:08.

How it works

Three steps to reading from a teleprompter

Paste your script

A speech, a video script or your speaker notes. Blank lines start a new paragraph, and a line that just says “Slide 3” marks a new slide.

Set your pace and size

Speed is in words per minute, the same way you speak. Make the text big enough to read from where you will stand.

Go full screen and read

Keep your eyes on the line near the top. Tap or press Space to pause, and ↑ or ↓ to speed up or slow down as you go.

words ÷ words per minute = minutes on screen. The prompter scrolls so the last line reaches the reading line exactly then. Example: 650 words at 130 words per minute takes 5:00, at any text size.

Keyboard

Keyboard shortcuts

They work anywhere on the page except while you are typing in the script box. The arrow keys work once the prompter is playing or in full screen.

KeyWhat it does
Space Play or pause
↑↓ Faster or slower, 10 words per minute at a time
←→ Jump back or forward a little
+− Bigger or smaller text
R Back to the start
M Mirror the text on or off
F Full screen on or off
Esc Leave full screen

Nothing leaves your device

No sign-up and no saving. Your script stays in this tab and is gone when you close it.

Ready for a mirror rig

Mirror mode flips the text for a beam-splitter teleprompter, and full screen hides everything else.

Works on any screen

Laptop, tablet or phone. Tap to pause, and the screen stays awake while it plays.

Presenting Google Slides? Your notes on your phone, live

A teleprompter scrolls what you paste. Copresent shows your speaker notes on your phone as you present, following the slide you are on, with a timer and the slide controls in your hand.

FAQ

Is this teleprompter really free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark, no time limit and no paid version. Paste a script and press play.

How fast should a teleprompter scroll?

Set it to your speaking pace. Speed here is in words per minute, so the whole script scrolls past in exactly words ÷ pace minutes, whatever the text size. Most people speak at 120 to 160 words per minute; it starts at 130. Start a little slower than feels natural, then press ↑ or ↓ while you read to adjust.

Can I use it with a teleprompter mirror or a beam splitter?

Yes. Turn on Mirror to flip the text left to right, so it reads the right way round in the glass. Then go full screen on the screen under the mirror.

Can I paste my Google Slides speaker notes?

Yes. Copy the notes from each slide and paste them in order. Put “Slide 2”, “Slide 3” and so on on their own line between them, and the prompter shows a small marker where each slide starts. Markers are not counted in the reading time.

Does it work on a phone or tablet?

Yes. Tap the text to play or pause, use the buttons for speed and size, and press Full screen. On an iPhone, where websites can't go truly full screen, the prompter fills the window instead.

Can I read my notes on my phone while I present Google Slides?

Not with this page, which only scrolls what you paste. Copresent does that live: your speaker notes appear on your phone and follow the slide you are on, with a timer and slide controls.

Is my script saved or sent anywhere?

No. The teleprompter runs entirely in your browser. Your script is never uploaded, saved or put in the page address, and it is gone when you close the page.
